The activity we spend the majority of our life doing is in fact, sleeping. It’s also a favorite activity for many, myself included. Since we spend so much time in our bed, it’s important that we choose the right bedding — bedding that doesn’t compromise our well-being. Synthetic sheets, duvet covers and even mattresses, are crafted with chemicals and do some nasty work while we obliviously catch some zzz’s; producing toxins at a time when our bodies are working hard to detox. The toxins found in our bedding break down into VOC’s, or volatile organic compounds, which can creep into the air we breathe at night, causing respiratory problems and other side effects. Additionally, the flame retardant material often found in mattresses have been linked to long-term impacts in the human body.
